Card
A card is a contained surface, usually with a background, border, or shadow, that groups related pieces of content into a single unit.
Why it matters
Cards make scattered information feel like one coherent object, which helps people scan and compare items in a list or grid. They are one of the most common building blocks in modern interfaces.
In depth
A small detail that matters: when a card has rounded corners, the inner radius of nested elements should be smaller than the outer radius so the corners look concentric rather than mismatched. Another common pitfall is making the entire card one big link — this can make the text inside impossible to select and can trap assistive technology. A clear, labeled link or button inside the card is usually safer.
Real-world example
On a streaming service, each show appears as a card with its poster, title, and a short description grouped together.
