Navigation

Navigation is the system of menus, links, and controls that lets people move through a product and understand where they are.

Why it matters

Navigation is how people explore and orient themselves. Confusing navigation makes even great content feel unreachable.

In depth

Navigation patterns include top bars, sidebars, tabs, hamburger menus, and breadcrumbs. Good navigation reflects the information architecture, stays consistent, and answers three questions for the user: Where am I? Where can I go? How do I get back?

Real-world example

A top navigation bar with clear sections, plus breadcrumbs showing the current location, helps users move around confidently.
