Typography

Typography is the art of arranging type — choosing typefaces, sizes, spacing, and line lengths — to make text readable and expressive.

Why it matters

Most interfaces are mostly text. Strong typography makes content easy to read and sets the tone and personality of a product.

In depth

Typography covers typeface selection, scale, line height, line length, and tracking. It is foundational to both readability and brand. Good typographic systems define a limited, intentional set of styles that create hierarchy and consistency.

Real-world example

Stripe and Linear use clean, well-spaced typefaces with clear size steps, which makes dense content feel calm and trustworthy.
